Presagio at PAV: The Ritual of Flesh and Machines

PAV in Turin is more than a venue; it is a living manifesto where wild nature reclaims industrial concrete.

Last Saturday, among the installations and three-dimensional decals inspired by Piero Gilardi’s Nature Carpets, the landscape seemed to breathe through the circuitry of electronic music itself.

The ritual began in the late afternoon with Vlada’s set, an exercise in anticipation and magnetic restraint that bathed the Main Stage in a cold, elegant glow. From a technical standpoint, her performance demonstrated a surgical control of low-end frequencies, with steep EQ cuts stripping away excess and leaving only a minimal, cinematic pulse. While delicate high-frequency textures crept beneath the skin like a nameless anxiety, the fading daylight brushed against Gilardi’s oversized synthetic pumpkins, suspending bodies in a state of hypnotic melancholy.

That geometric precision found its visceral counterpart in the simultaneous live performance by MONOTONOISE on the Listening Stage, where the ground itself seemed to tremble beneath the force of a Eurorack modular system pushed to the edge of self-oscillation. His dark industrial techno, saturated with raw harmonics generated through analog distortion, functioned as a form of sonic shock therapy. Erasing the boundary between human and machine, it transformed the audience into a single mass of flesh and sweat responding to a primordial, cathartic impulse.

The final collapse arrived at midnight with Legowelt’s cosmic closing set, an emotional collision of sci-fi nostalgia powered by 12-bit samplers and vintage synthesizers. Driving analog preamps relentlessly into the red, Danny Wolfers unleashed acid basslines and three-dimensional string textures that seemed to float above the trees surrounding the park. His melodies - retro, fragile and strangely heartbreaking - evoked the memory of a future that never happened, merging seamlessly with the artificial yet deeply human spirit of the artworks inhabiting PAV.

When the music finally stopped, silence did not arrive immediately. What remained was the rustling of leaves, the sound of heavy breathing in the darkness, and the lingering scar of a shared pulse.
